7: Apsley House at Hyde Park Corner

Apsley HouseBecame home to the Duke of Wellington after his victory over Napoleon at Waterloo and, although it is open to the public through English Heritage, the Duke's decendents still live here in private rooms. The sumptuous Regency interior of the house has changed very little since the days of the Iron Duke. The treasure trove of pictures that originally belonged to the Hapsburg and Bourbon kings of Spain were acquired after the Battle of Vitoria in 1813.
