9: Athenaeum Hotel on Piccadilly

Atheneum HotelA vertical garden composed of over 12,000 plants grows out of the corner of this five star hotel. Designed by the research scientist Raymond Blanc, most of the plants come from East Asia and were propagated in the south of France before transfer to London. Ferns are at the bottom while the plants that need most sunlight are arranged at the top. They are rooted in a felt substrate which is secured to the building and kept moist with a fertilizer solution.
