16: James Smith umbrella shop on New Oxford Street

James Smith umbrellasWith the original mirrored glass and engraved brass, the outside of the James Smith umbrella shop has remained virtually unaltered in 140 years. The basement workshop still manufactures umbrellas to order with a choice of styles and handles. Walking sticks and canes are also supplied. The company website tells of an American client who, having asked for a walking stick in every English wood possible, now has a collection of over 70 sticks.
