Hotspot 32

Another London hotspot: Duke of York square on a sunny afternoonn

That grand Duke of York, with ten thousand men,

Marched up a steep hill and then down it again.

When they were halfway,

They were neither, they say,

A military goof we recall now and then.

Look down at your feet for a clever design,

A map of the King’s Road, in paving so fine.

From the year seventeen-twenty,

With details a-plenty,

It marks out a royal and private old line.

And don’t miss Sir Sloane, standing tall on his base,

With a wig on his head and a look of such grace.

The museum’s great founder,

A chocolate-drink bounder.

Without him, we’d lack half the charm of this place.
