London ultra-short walk (06)

The Liberty department store once occupied both the heavy stone building on Regent Street and the Tudor-style building at the back. The buildings are both the same age and are connected by a bridge. Today’s Liberty store is only in the Tudor-style part.

The connecting bridge is entertaining. Underneath the clock dial, there is a beautifully painted mechanical display, and every quarter of an hour, a figure of St. George emerges on horseback to chase and fight a mechanical dragon. Another detail on the building is the weather vane on the roof which is a model of the Mayflower, the famous ship that transported the Pilgrims to America.
