A one minute walk from the Seven Dials sundial
London ultra-short walk (09)
The large wooden barrel mounted on the green bracket on the corner of the brick building is a monument to the area's transformation in the 1970s. A eco-campaigner Nicholas Saunders bought one of the derelict buildings here to create the Neal’s Yard Wholefood Warehouse, using barrels and bulk bins to sell healthy unprocessed food to the public. The water-powered clock on the front of the building sadly no longer works.
The narrow brick alleyway that leads off Shorts Gardens, opens up into a colourful and much-photographed Neal’s Yard. Still operating from this location is the very first Neal’s Yard Remedies shop, and there are a number of independent cafes with outside tables.
