Argyll Street

Palladium Theatre

A one minute walk from Oxford Circus

London ultra-short walk (13)

Exit 8 from Oxford Circus station leads directly onto Argyll Street. This is the most direct way to Liberty department store and to Carnaby Street.

The grand building that is now the Palladium theatre has been repurposed many times over the years. In the late 1800s, it housed Hengler’s Grand Cirque, which featured tightrope walkers and performing animals. When the circus trend ended, the building was flooded and converted into the National Skating Palace, an indoor ice-rink where Victorian Londoners came to glide under the domed roof.

Notice the blue plaque on the building to the left of the theatre. It marks where the Beatles manager, Brian Epstein, operated from headquarters on the top floor.
