Ramillies Street

A one minute walk from Oxford Street

London ultra-short walk - 26

Taking the steps into Ramillies Street from Oxford Street leads to the Photographers’ Gallery. Founded by Sue Davies in 1971 as the UK’s very first public gallery dedicated entirely to photography. The museum originally operated on a shoestring budget out of a former tea shop, and went on to introduce international names like Juergen Teller, Robert Capa, and Cindy Sherman to the British public for the first time.

Enjoy engaging insights into photographers and photographs. Three exhibition spaces, a print and book shop, plus a café on the ground floor.

There is a custom-made camera obscura on the top floor, a tribute to an optical phenomenon that led to the invention of the camera. Open variable hours.
